Jason from Adpost Online
For all your Tradie Marketing and Printing Needs!
It is no surprise Jason from Adpost has made our pick into the Tradebusters Academy expert panel. Adpost has been supporting the Tradebusters growth for years now. An ex-tradie himself, we join Jason to learn more about his business and why he gets the tradie stamp of approval.
When did you start your business and what made you go into business?
I started printing and leaflet distribution out of the need to get customers for my carpet cleaning business at the age of 18. At the time I couldn’t find anyone to do it for me so I decided to do it myself.
I bought a commercial printer and, after I figured out how to use the machine, hired 5 walkers to distribute the leaflets around my local area. Soon after that, the customers started to calling and booking in.
Word spread in the area after how effective the letterbox distribution was for my business. Suddenly I became inundated with requests from other business to do the same for them – hence Adpost was born.
We have continued to expand since. We now have 29 employees and 32 walkers helping our customer’s with their businesses through effective marketing solutions – providing custom magnets, printed marketing material and distribution to over 1400 tradies.
As we have grown, we have continued to expand our services providing both general and commercial printing solutions including all business printing needs both stationary and marketing
You service alot of tradies. What has made Adpost so successful in gaining their loyalty?
I think Adpost is different because we have come from a tradie background and understand the type of marketing collateral tradies need. It’s not a one size fits all but there is certainly types of products on the market that are more effective than others
What are your top 3 tips for tradies with their printing and marketing?
My top 3 tips for tradies would be:-
- After you have completed a job, letterbox drop your flyers to the 3 neighbours either side of your happy customer and the 6 across the road. Neighbours talk and with a neighbourly referral, this is a winning marketing strategy. We call this the Adpost 3-6-3 rule.
- Don’t stop marketing when you get busy. Cut back perhaps but don’t stop. Avoid falling into to what I call “the tradie roller-coaster” – too much work, not enough work. I’ve seen it happen all too often, tradies get busy than fall behind on thinking ahead to next weeks or months work than all of a sudden there isn’t any.
- Street side marketing – place a sandwich board or flag on the footpath e.g ‘Proud Plumbers Are On Site’ to start the word of mouth campaign.
What mistakes do you often see tradies make in printing?
The number one mistake I see is in their promotional material. A lot of tradies talk about themselves and not the benefits their service can bring to the customer. Another issue I see is the lack of a good call to action or offer on their advertising to differentiate them from the competition.
What makes a good service provider in your profession?
A good Printer has In-house design to save you time and money, flexibility in machinery to provide a cost efficient solution.
The other important thing is for a company to understand the type business they are printing for so they can provide the most effective solution.
